Movie Night: “What Plants Talk About”

Join us for our Friday Movie Nights documentary film series.

All movies will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Smithtown Library, Main Building, One North Country Road, Smithtown. Free and open to all. Reservations required. Our next feature is “What Plants Talk About”. It will be shown on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 7 PM.

Hard core science is effortlessly integrated with a light-hearted look at how plants behave. Scientist J.C. Cahill takes us on a journey into the secret world of plants, revealing an astonishing landscape where plants eavesdrop on each other, talk to their allies, call in insect mercenaries and nurture their young. It is a world of pulsing activity, where plants communicate, cooperate and, sometimes, wage all-out war.  JK

Nighthawk Watch Starts Tonight

Join Four Harbors Audubon Society (FHAS) as it kicks off, in association with the Frank Melville Memorial Park, its second annual “Frank Melville Stone Bridge Nighthawk Watch” on August 20, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. at the Red Barn in the park. 

John Turner,  FHAS Conservation Chair, will present a short informational program on the “Four W’s” of the Nighthawk Watch. Come learn about the migration of the Common Nighthawk and how the species ties Long Island to North America, and North America with the rest of the Western hemisphere. After the program we’ll stroll to the stone bridge to begin the watch.

Don’t worry!  If you cannot join us for our kickoff on the 20th, come any evening afterwards, from 5:30 p.m. until dusk through early October.  See you at the Stone Bridge!

Kayak Trip Postponed One Day

Kayak Trip Postponed

Due to anticipated rain on Sunday, May 27th, the Kayak/Canoeing outing has been postponed.  The trip will take place on the scheduled rain date, Sunday, June 10th at 8 a.m.
